Counselor Connection Newsletter - January 2025
Counseling Lessons:
Happy 2025! To kick off the new year, students will be receiving guidance lessons about perseverance and growth mindset. When children attempt difficult or unfamiliar tasks and work through the challenges, they will have a deep sense of satisfaction and feel more confident when approaching the next challenge! During the lessons, students will learn a new skill and learn affirmations they can use with future learning.
In the month of January you can expect middle of year MAP testing and goal-setting. We encourage you to talk about the goals they’re setting in their classroom and perhaps even come up with a family goal to work on together. A couple questions to start the conversation could include:
- What is something you wish you could do/achieve/accomplish?
- What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Mindfulness Matters:
Practicing Emotional Check-Ins
How to Do It:
- Set aside a few minutes each day to ask your child about their feelings.
- Use prompts like: “How are you feeling today?” or “Can you tell me about a moment today when you felt happy/sad/frustrated?
Validate their emotions by saying things like, “It’s okay to feel upset sometimes,” or “I understand why that made you feel happy.”
